A native of Portage Lakes, Ohio, John Whitford lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife, his two German Shorthair Pointers, Rita and Ruger, and two Vietnamese potbellied pigs—Arkady and Piggy Sue.
When not working on his art, John is planning his next bicycle tour. He and his wife have traveled extensively in the U.S. and Canada, fully self-contained on their bikes.
John is also a student of the Civil War, making sites of the battlefields a focus of many of the couple's bicycle tours.
